Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by her mother, her grandmother, and godparents. Her father abandoned her family. She suffered from an anxiety disorder that was rooted in the word association when she was a teenager. Ford became fascinated by acting during her teens, and joined the National Youth Theatre. She got into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. After just a month, she decided that it wasn't for her. Ford made an application at the Central School of Speech and Drama and eventually secured the position she wanted on her third attempt. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler as a regular character on Doctor Who. Ford was not able to finish her studies in 1993. However, in 1991, Ford had made her first appearance on TV on the show Surgical Spirit. At that point, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate was featured in a variety of television programs like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly as well as London's Burning in the Nineties. Alongside her usual performances in the theatre, Tate also joined with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate received recognition as a stand-up comedian that became part of her resume in 1996.
